Common Causes of Female Infertility
Five Most Common Causes of Female Infertility
A number of factors can cause female infertility. This article will inform you about the five most common ones among them.
PCOS
PCOS is the abbreviated form of polycystic ovarian syndrome, a condition that occurs due to excessive production of androgen from the ovaries. This disorder is usually marked by formation of tiny cysts around the affected ovary’s edge. As ovaries of a woman are the organs responsible for producing eggs any problem with them can make the woman infertile. One of the most common signs of PCOS is irregular menstruation.
Endometriosis
A woman is said to be suffering from endometriosis when endometrial tissues start growing outside her uterus. The term -endometrial tissues- is used for the tissues forming the uterus’s lining. When a woman develops endometriosis, these tissues start growing in places outside her uterus, for instance in her fallopian tubes, ovaries and different parts of her pelvic cavity. This may impair the egg’s passage and stop the fallopian tubes, uterus and ovaries of the woman from functioning properly making her infertile.
Fallopian Tube Disorders
Blockage or damage in a woman’s fallopian tubes can cause infertility by stopping the fertilized eggs from entering the uterus of the woman for implantation. This, other that leaving the woman at high risk of becoming infertile also increases her chances of having ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg is implanted outside a woman’s uterus. Blockage or damage of fallopian tubes can be caused by STDs like gonorrhea and Chlamydia as well as PIDs (pelvic inflammatory disease).
Premature Ovarian Failure
This condition is often called early menopause and is marked by premature depletion of the ovarian follicles responsible for production of eggs. When a woman experiences premature ovarian failure her ovaries loses the ability of producing eggs, which eventually make her infertile. Some risk factors for this condition include autoimmune diseases, cancer treatment, disorders of thyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands etc.
PID
PID or Pelvic Inflammatory Disease is one of the most common factors that leave young women infertile. Women can develop PID due to bacterial infections in one or more structures of their pelvic region or any of their reproductive organs (fallopian tubes are the most commonly affected organs). Risk factors for this condition include STDS like gonorrhea and Chlamydia.
